Final Days

From GURPSworld Wiki

Final Days is a religious cult with roots in Christianity, in particular those aspects of Christianity dealing with the apocalypse. Scholars have referred to it as a pseudo-Christian, or trans-Christian cult. The central tenet of the cult's doctrine is that the alien incursion of 2045 represents the reckoning, as predicted in The Book of Revelation. Final Days members believe that it is God's will that humanity perish, and that resisting destruction at the hands of the invaders is blasphemous. They engage in acts of sabotage and violence aimed at crippling humankind's ability to resist the invaders.

History

Final Days formed in Arlington, Texas in the summer of 2044 by Harlon Jones, a former minister in the charismatic movement. It was formed prior to the official release of the impending alien attack on November 12th of that same year. The cult was initially regarded as a doomsday cult, but when news of the alien attack became public, it was speculated they may have had advanced knowledge of this information. The cult had already begun amassing weapons and resources, and had established an entire paramilitary wing. Following the announcement of the attacks, Final Days went public and began recruiting aggressively. Its numbers were never established before global chaos broke out in 2045, but experts believe that its numbers may have reached several hundred thousand, if not more, by the time of The Attack.

Final Days membership spread quickly from its home in Texas throughout North America. By the time of The Attack, it had gained footholds in many regions around the world. It had grown particularly popular in Armenia, Korea, South Africa, Switzerland, and many areas of Central America.

Organization

Final Days has had few other public figures besides Harlon Jones, who himself went underground several months prior to The Attack. His whereabouts at the time of The Attack were unknown. Mary White was the public relations director for the cult, but she, too, disappeared some months prior to The Attack. Some experts suggest that the cult had created several bunkers in Kansas and Oklahoma. Inside sources say the rationale for these bunkers was so the devoted could "see this through to the end." The structure of the cult started like any religious organization, but infiltrators discovered that, beneath the surface, lay a terrorist cell structure populated by highly-trained paramilitary operatives. They operated in groups of three, call trinities, carrying out violent attacks, suicide bombings, and other acts of terrorism. At times, multiple cells worked in conjunction, such as at the October 2044 bombing of George W. Bush memorial stadium in Dallas, Texas, during game three of Major League Baseball's World Series, or during the firebombing of Resbaladero, Peru.

Final Days became infamous for its use of sophisticated weapons and cybernetics technologies to infiltrate and destroy its targets. Even before November 12, 2044, it had operatives in place in many major corporations, and even within the National Park Service. Whether these operatives were already in place and became converts, or whether they were Final Days members before infiltrating these entities is unknown. Among their trademarks are very sophisticated homemade explosives, and technologically augmented stealth and disguises.
