January

1 – The ship SS Catala is driven onto the beach in Ocean Shores, Washington, stranding her.

4 – U.S. President Richard M. Nixon proclaims his "Great Society" during his State of the Union Address.

12 - The bodies of two 15-year-olds, Christine Sharrock and Marianne Schmidt, are found at Wanda Beach, Sydney.

14 - The Prime Minister of Northern Ireland and the Taoiseach of the Republic of Ireland meet for the first time in 43 years.

20 – Richard M Nixon is sworn in for his second term as U.S. President.

21 – Miles Davis Quintet plays the Blue Lotus (through Jan 23).

22 – Bethany Johnson commits suicide.

24 – Winston Churchill dies in London.

28 – President Nixon appoints former Illinois governor Adlai Stevenson as US Ambassador to the League of Nations.

February

3 – Earthquake measuring 3.4 on Richter scale. Epicenter: San Andreas, CA.

7 – Raid on Promethean Foundation headquarters in Los Angeles results in the arrest of several individuals associated with an international organized crime ring dealing in stolen occult artifacts.

9 – The body of Freddie Gumm is discovered near Cave City, California. Magdalena Carter is reported dead in Paris, France.

11 – C.C.C. members David Siegel, Greg Lightman, Jimmy Crane, and Sterling Brown are killed when Siegel's car is struck by a train. The group are returning from a wake for Freddie Gumm and were thought to be highly intoxicated.

12 – In the wake of a violent communist uprising, the kingdom of Bhutan requests assistance from Tibet.

14 – Tibetan military forces occupy Bhutan.

21 – Malcolm X, a Muslim prophet and reputed magician, is publicly assassinated in New York. His wife and several others are injured in the melee. The assassins escape without harm in the confusion.

22 – Body of Malcolm X disappears from NYC morgue. Morgue attendant claims he saw a bright light and when he went to investigate, he saw Malcolm sitting upright. Drug tests showed the attendant was using marijuana at the time and had a history of heroin and psychedelic use.

25 – Malcolm X spotted outside Nation of Islam mosque in Harlem. Over thirty people claim to have seen Malcolm raise his arms and bless the crowd in Arabic.

27 – Memorial service for Malcolm X in Harlem.
