Communists, also known as Commies, are one of the greatest threats to the security of The City.

The History of Communism

Not even Commies themselves really know much about historical communism, which was a dead doctrine long before Year 1 of The City. Academically-inclined Commies have attempted to reconstruct communist doctrine from the few sources they have been able to find, but most Commies have little idea what it’s all about.

Most people who claim to be Commies have no idea why they are communists. It is not uncommon in fact for self-described Commies to deny any association with actual communism or communist doctrine. When questioned directly, nearly half of all self-described communists actually reject known tenets of communist doctrine.

The nonsensical nature of known communist doctrine has led The Computer has designated every communist for re-education or termination.

Communists Are Everywhere

Ironically, intense persecution of communism by The Computer has led to its revival. Some rebellious citizens have concluded if The Computer hates Commies that much, communism must have something going for it.

Message to the Citizenry from OBI-B-4, Governor of INTSEC, 318.10.15

Citizens, there is a serious menace in our society today. I am of course referring to Communism, which is now plaguing the entire City. We must all learn what a curse Communism really is and take action against its open threats and its subversive activities or we shall surely lose our safety and security.

We cannot win and survive by mere wishful thinking or by dreaming. We must prepare fully. We must mobilize with adequate might. We must determine to win. We must dedicate ourselves until the menace of Communism is eradicated.

There can be no recess from the task ahead. Every stoppage is a betrayal of our fighting men and a benefit only to these Commies and their co-conspirators in secret societies everywhere.

Let those accursed Communists know in the only language they understand - strength - that should they attack our security, we are committed to defend, we are mobilized and prepared, and as in the past, with the help of The Computer and our might and our determination, history as the referee will again hold our hand aloft in victory over a ruthless foe.
