Akira Kandagawa

From GURPSworld Wiki

Akira Kandagawa was born in 2216 in San Francisco, California, on Earth. His parents are Michiko and Keichi Kandagawa. His mother, Michiko, is a botanist and his father is a mathematician. Both are professors at Stanford University.

Akira Kandagawa was a gifted student from a very early age, showing high aptitude in mathematics and science. He went to an accelerated primary school program, and entered high school one year early. As a youth, Kandagawa was a competitive strategema player, and a participant in the national Mathematics Olympiad. Subsequently, he entered university early with the aim of becoming a scientist, perhaps specializing in physics or computer science. It was at university where Kandagawa's mentors took note of his unusual ability to quickly and easily understand people and their personalities, after which he was encouraged to study psychology. It proved to be a natural fit for Kandagawa, and he quickly attained a Ph.D. in psychology. It was also during this time that Kandagawa's views on the world changed, and his priorities shifted from being a research scientist to serving the federation. It was then that he enrolled in Starfleet academy. This at first disappointed his parents, but in time they grew to accept his decision to serve in Starfleet instead of enter the realm of academia.

Following his years at the academy, Kandagawa received advanced training in psychology and medicine, and spent time traveling aboard starships and serving at starbases studying under more experienced counselors, before being assigned to the USS Merlin as ship's counselor and medical assistant.

Outside of his work as a Starfleet officer, Kandagawa spends his leisure time gardening (something he learned from his mother), and studying or playing strategema. Most of his personal interests involve science and technology, and he is always up to date about the latest developments in those fields. He is further known for being a habitual tea drinker and for abstaining from all alcohol consumption.
