As a Patron, Miskatonic University provides research materials and resources for alumni and other associated individuals. through the frequent expeditions sponsored by the university, Miskatonic is also able to provide travel arrangements for certain exotic locales. Miskatonic does not provide weapons, armor, or other items related to combat. Equipment provided by Miskatonic tends to be scientific in nature and is rarely exotic or expensive. Miskatonic does not have access to cutting-edge technology; in fact, most equipment provided will be used and possibly in need of maintenance or repair.

Miskatonic is an extremely useful resource for those who have Occultism, Hidden Lore, or Magic-related skills. The university libraries hold copies of some of the rarest and most proscribed manuscripts in the world, with the special collections housing the sole surviving copies of some manuscripts. Miskatonic faculty have an incredible breadth of understanding and experience with the occult, and generally make themselves available to students and other Miskatonic friends. Due to the nature of the field, however, the assistance provided by Miskatonic is not always helpful or appropriate. If under the patronage of Miskatonic, characters get a +10 to Research rolls while utilizing the university's on-campus resources, a +6 to rolls at other Miskatonic facilities (such as satellite campuses or private libraries), and a +2 to Research rolls at all other college and university libraries.

Miskatonic as Patron (5 points)

Power: a fairly powerful organization (assets of at least 1,000 times starting wealth for the world).

Frequency of Appearance: Fairly often (roll of 9 or less)

Special Limitations: Minimal Intervention: Your Patron is less useful than its power level would suggest. On a successful appearance roll, the GM makes a reaction roll for your Patron to determine whether it actually provides aid; see Requests for Aid (GURPS Basic p. 562). On a Neutral or better reaction, you receive the aid your Patron thinks you need – which may or may not be what you want.
