On Stardate 3712.14, ENS Hruska and ENS Kandegawa beamed down with me to Frallia, hoping to enjoy a little local R&R. We went to a local tavern, The Harlot and Artisan, where we ran into a trader named Garb of Gor. He claimed to be seeling rare, precious gems – Kandegawa however discovered the gems were little more than costume jewelry. The trader however began to draw a crowd with his wares.

While interacting with a Brecon female named Syp, Hruska was accosted by a Brecon male, Broj, who took issue with Hruska’s attentions toward Syp. Though he attempted to aavoid it, Hruska soon found himself in a brawl with the Brecon. His Starfleet training proved more than adequate as Hruska briskly incapacitated Broj. Attempting to smooth things over and avoid future trouble, I invited Broj to sit with us for a drink.

Kandegawa noticed a long line and crowd forming around the women’s restroom. We investigate and found the door sealed shut from the other side. A tricorder scan revealed a Brecon lying prone on the floor. Using a Phaser-2, I disintegrated the door and went inside. Kandegawa quickly scanned the Brecon female on the floor and saw she was bleeding from a knife wound. A scan revealed she was also poisoned by Rivilit, a fast-acting blood agent. I quickly ordered an emergency transport to the USS Merlin. Kandegawa and the Merlin medical team were able to defy the odds and save the life of the Brecon female.

Hruska scanned the bathroom for evidence – as the door was sealed from inside the bathroom, we reasoned that whoever had stabbed the Brecon female has transported out. Hruska discovered residue from at least one transporter signal.

The Brecon female Kin-Kain regained consciousness and informed us that she had been at the bar to meet someone who claimed to have information about her missing pair-bond, Kain-Kin. She was talking with the man in the bathroom when an Orion transported into the room. The Orion appeared to be working with the man Kin-Kain was meeting. The Orion drew a knife and stabbed Kin-Kain, then sealed the bathroom door. The Orion and the man transported out of the bathroom.

Kin-Kain informed us that her partner had worked for Lenken Dynamics, a company that manufactures NX-66 warp modules. Kain was the personal secretary of Soft-Iaap, Vice-president of Research and Development at Lenken. Kain appeared to have been in some trouble, acting oddly for the last few weeks, and had gone missing 2-3 days earlier. Kin-Kain began searching for her and was contacted by the man, who claimed to have information about Kain-Kin.

Scans from the Merlin showed that five ships had left orbit just after the attempt on Kin-Kain’s life. The Merlin was soon alerted to another matter: the USS Alligator, a Swordfish-class carrier that was transporting NX-66 prototypes to the Starfleet proving grounds, had been attacked by pirates. The modules had all been stolen. The USS Merlin was immediately ordered to the area.

Captain Scott directed myself, ENS Hruska and ENS Kandegawa to continue the investigation on Frallia. ENS Travers was assigned to the team as additional support. The team was thoroughly outfitted and left on Frallia. Local law enforcement and Federation Patrol were instructed to assist us in our investigation.

Composite renderings of the Orion and the man were obtained from Kin-Kain. Kandegawa ran these images through the Frallia law enforcement computers, attempting to use facial recognition software to discover a match. The image of the human male did not match anything in the Frallia database. The Orion face, however, matched the face of Thalal, a know Orion pirate and leader of the Five Worlds syndicate. With the discovery of this evidence, it became clear there was a conspiracy to steal the warp modules, and Kain-Kin had provided some information to the criminals.

We discovered that Kain-Kin frequented another bar, the Wandering Fox. We requested the owner of the bar allow us to view his surveillance footage. Kandegawa was able to locate three recent visits Kain-Kin had made to this bar. In two of the visits she is seen with the human male who contacted Kin-Kain. In the second of these visits, she gives the man what appears to be a data card. On the third visit, Kain-Kin is seen alone, but appears to leave when someone comes to the door of the bar for her.

Local police Chief Gryn Gronlich provided surveillance footage from traffic cameras, which showed Kain-Kin getting into a vehicle with the man. The vehicle was registered with Los-Nin, and had been reported stolen two days earlier. The car was tracked to the city limits, where it continued beyond the sensor perimeter.

Kandegawa accompanied me to Lenken Dynamics headquarters. Kandegawa met with security chief Sascaft Joft, who was very cooperative and provided Kandegawa with access to internal security records and video footage. I met with Soft-Iaap, the VP of R&D. Kandegawa’s study revealed Kain-Kin had on several occasions accessed classified information from Soft-Iaap’s computer. Further investigation revealed she had transcribed the NX-66 shipping manifest and schedule for the USS Alligator shipment.

Planetary satellite surveillance located the stolen car several kilometers outside city limits. Kandegawa and I investigated the car, where we found Kain-Kin’s personal data pad, secreted in the back seat. The car had been cleaned of physical evidence, but Kain-Kin appeared to have left us a clue on her data pad: the words ENDRIX HERNE.

“Herne” proved to be a planet in the neighboring sector; several factors indicated this to be the likely destination of the stolen NX-66 warp modules. We informed the Merlin of our latest discoveries, including our suspicion that the stolen modules were headed for Herne. We received orders to proceed to Herne via commercial transport and investigate. The Merlin would alter course and travel to Herne as quickly as possible. Commander Sennit arranged for several credits to be transferred into our personal accounts. We adopted the cover of four young friends (extreme travel and sports enthusiasts) on a ski trip. Transport was secured on the SS Cassiopeia, a luxury liner that makes regular runs to Herne. A report on our actions and investigations on Herne will follow.
