Avernus is a red hypergiant star in the Uando Galaxy. It is among the largest and most massive stars in the Uando Galaxy, visible from thousands of lightyears. It shines bright enough to cast shadows on the surface of Nyris at night, and is also the brightest star in the night sky on Metera. Of particular interest to thaumatological scholars is the unusual mana zone that surrounds the star out to a radius of approximately a lightyear that prevents gate magic from working, and which is believed to twist and warp all other forms of mana.

Avernus plays into the oral history and theories of the mystical and esoteric arts on the known worlds of the Uando Galaxy where it is visible.
