Calvin Alden is a very wealthy individual who is known to sponsor a variety of causes, including scientific expeditions and investigations. Alden has numerous contacts within the Los Angeles Police Department and among journalists in California. He also has ties to several celebrities and other members of the Hollywood entertainment industry. His wealth allows him to purchase and provide average equipment to those under his patronage. As an alumnus and generous donor, Alden also has contact and influence with Miskatonic University.
